When he left his kingdom, he revoked the name of "Samael" in favor of Lucifer- removing the name that bound him to God and replacing himself with his cause and title- the Light Bringer. (Hebrew: השָׂטָן ha-Satan ('the accuser'); Arabic: الشيطان al-Shaitan ('the adversary') Originally, Satan (as ha-Satan) was a great angel, chief of the seraphim, head of the order of virtues. While seraphim were usually pictured as six-winged, Satan was shown as twelve-winged. Gregory the Great, in his Moralia, after listing the nine hierarchic orders, pays this tribute to Satan: "he wore all of them [all of the angels] as a garment, transcending all in glory and knowledge."

Lucifer is an original character that's recently become influenced by various canons, largely Sandman, Lucifer (DC), and Murder Mysteries. He also dips his hands in I, Lucifer, as well as several other canons. He's humorously using Voltaire as a PB and current skin of choice. Note, he is NOT meant to be Voltaire. It's just a look.
There's no affiliation or relation to the clever, multi-talented man that is Voltaire beside the appearance.
